OVERWHELMED???
Hello Beautiful Ones.. I hope you are keeping well. Happy New Moon in Scorpio!
I wanted to write a little about overwhelm today. It’s something I am working with at the moment myself and as a person working in this field for many Years, and experiencing burn out many times, resulting in a Hypothyroid diagnosis, I am now getting to a place of,listening to the signs and acting on the feelings of overwhelm and acting before I burnout.
Overwhelm is a response of the nervous system, you have a mind blowing navigation system within your body of such intelligence, your body is always communicating with you if you give yourself the time to listen!
I would like to share a few things with you, that may prevent you getting to a Dis - Ease stage when working in the field of the Spiritual, or any other field for that matter.
I have learned workaholic tendencies, so my early teachings were over work, over give and the feeling of guilt is i sat down to rest.
Does this resonate? Where did we learn that we should feel guilty for resting and recharging????
When we work in heart led businesses, it’s really difficult to stop and create boundaries when we are doing what we love.
As a person with mild ADHD, which is a gift and also a curse, my creative brain struggles to switch off!
I now have a navigation system that lets me know when I am heading for burn out and overwhelm is one of the first signs.
When I feel overwhelm creeping up I begin to crave space. I need quiet time away from people.
The next symptom is I start feeling not enough, I begin comparing myself to others and my confidence drains, a sign my Solar plexus Chakra goes down.
My mood goes low and I start to feel depressed and, for me I also get vertigo and tinitus. Once this kicks in, i know i’ve pushed it a step too far.
So, what I have learned is that if I can catch it at the overwhelm stage, and use overwhelm as my compass that I really need to break away and rest it prevents a full burn out.
Even better, If i constantly top up with self care, I rarely get to the overwhelm stage at all.I am still learning this one!
So, what;’s the first thing we can do at the first stage?
1.My Mum used to always say to me, Drop one thing. Cancel one commitment will create space and space is what’s needed here.
2. Book a day away from everything work related, go into nature, whether to the Sea to the Woods, anywhere you can connect with Earth element.
3. Journal out any feelings of resentment, anything that you are feeling, get it moving and shifting.
4. Cook yourself some lovely nourishing food, maybe including some root veg to help support grounding and nourishing.
5. Call on Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of nourishment and Love. Take some time in Meditation and chant Om Shreem Lakshmi- yay Namaha nine times, let the vibration nourish your body and mind.
6. Dance, put on some of your favourite music and boogie round the kitchen!
7. Restorative Childs pose, one of the most amazing postures to settle the nervous system. Come to the floor, with a bolster, kneel and curl around the bolster, stay there for 10 minutes
8. Prithvi Mudra, sit with your spine upright, touch the tip of your thumb to your ring finger, focus on your breath, nourishing you as you inhale and releasing as you exhale.
9. Have some fun, we are way too serious most of the time, go do something that makes you laugh, nourish yourself with laughter and joy, see a friend, watch a funny film or a comedian you love.
10. Give yourself a break, you are doing bloody AMAZING! Keep going but always listen to the subtle signals telling you it’s time to rest.
With all my love.
